From Samsung Plasma TV FAQ

Jump to: navigation, search

This might be a good FAQ item for this section: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showpost.php?p=11787782 Although the answer to the both questions may apply to any TV, it does get asked a lot in the Sammy threads. --Mfenech 13:04, 2 October 2007 (UTC)

Yeah, I've seen that question a lot. Please feel free to add it here! --grimholtz 16:25, 2 October 2007 (UTC)

I don't have a STB, so I'm not the right person to answer it, but I'll add something to start.--Mfenech 17:06, 2 October 2007 (UTC)

http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/How_to_use_a_Motorola_DVR/Setup

If I select 1080 for my STB and it looks ok, it doesnt mean a 1080 setting on someone elses STB will give the same quality picture, its a trial by error type thing. I had set up with a moto 6416 and now am using a 6412. IF I had originally set up the Sammy with the 6412 I would have been saying "what a crappy picture" this TV is producing, but its the STB and not the Plasma.

[edit] 420i

I believe ipod or some other gadget supports 420i. If so was that what you meant. I noticed someone changed it to 480i. Benjamin

I think it was just a typo. Should have been 480, not 420, and someone corrected me. I don't know about ipods. --grimholtz 19:29, 11 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Adding to contents

I would like to add those two and possibly more later this week, but I cant list them in the TOC index.. Is it me or am I locked out???.The entry first appears as #17 but when text is added it is appended to #16 and the #17 disappears....Benjamin.Dec01

You shouldn't be "locked out". Do you want me to add them for you? --grimholtz 14:50, 2 December 2007 (UTC)

Can I Set My Plasma TV To Display 1080i? [1]

All current Samsung 2007 Plasma TVs can receive 1080i signals, but none display a 1080i picture. Depending on your model, the TV will convert the 1080i signal to either a 720p HDTV picture or a 1080p HDTV picture.

Up-converting and down-converting explained [2]

Of the 2007 Samsung plasma TVs, all HP-T series plasma TVs display all input in the 720p HD format. All FP-T series plasma TVs display all inputs in the 1080p HD format.

Depending on the input signal, your Samsung Plasma TV will either up-convert or down-convert the signal. For example, if your Plasma TV displays at 720p, then it will up-convert a 480i or 480p signal to 720p and down-convert a 1080i or 1080p signal to 720p.

The TVs up-convert or down-convert the signal it inputs to match its display resolution.

[edit] Remote Codes

Has anyone else experienced problems with the Remote code 702 when used on an HPT-5064 model in combination with the universal remote supplied with a Dish Network DVR (older model DVR, not HD compatible)? When using code 702 (Dish Network remote only accepts 3 digits) it does not control any TV function. However, when I use code 516 (and a few others listed for Samsung TVs) it works (e.g Volume and power... the only things my Dish remote needs to control) but it does not repeat the volume command if it is continually depressed. Am upgrading to the ViP 722 HD DVR this weekend. Will see if the new remote accepts code 702. Seth-- 24 January 2008

After testing with Dish Network DVR model ViP 722, I've determined that the correct code is 738. This allows the correct volume operation as well as showing the TV "Info" when Info is pressed on the remote. When pressing the menu button on the remote, the TV menu does pop up, but navigating inside the menu does not work correctly with the Dish remote. Seth -- Feb 9 2008
